There’s been so much rain over the past two months, the little yellow flowers have taken over the playground in Elephant Butte Lake State Park. I don’t think anyone tried to kill them as if they were weeds this year. There are two kinds: one with blooms the size of a teaspoon, another with flowers no bigger than a bean.
The lake still is low, but it has filled enough that it’s blue again instead of dead beige. People are camping again, though I don’t hear boat motors, for which I’m grateful. More flowers, less noise.
